In today’s times, much like times before (relative to the economic situation), being able to fulfill mitzvot requires a tremendous amount of wealth. The month of Tishrei brings with it additional expenses beyond the usual. There are of course the additional Yom Tov meals and the costs in obtaining a seat in shul. When it comes to Sukkot, there is the cost of the Lulav and Etrog, Hadassim and Aravot. Then of course is the cost of the Sukkah. Some are fortunate to own a Sukkah for many years – yet others must purchase a new Sukkah regularly. Strong winds often destroy the Schach as well as blow the “fragile” Sukkah into surrounding walls – completely destroying it.

We know what it is like, having gone through a variety of Schach bamboo “mats” as well as actual Sukkot. Being “on the run” – we make use of the easy-to-assemble metal Sukkah because it is the most convenient for regular moving transport purposes. We simply have no space in the apartments we stay in, to be able to purchase the wooden boards – nor the space necessary to assemble them. The metal frames do best for us. Unfortunately our Sukkot have not always been blessed – and as we stand today – we have no Sukkah any longer. Our first Sukkah was a borrowed one. Our second Sukkah was totally destroyed in a powerful wind. Our third Sukkah was just the Schach which was placed running across a balcony of three walls just about 1.4 metres in height(!) which we had in our previous apartment. Having moved yet again, we can no longer make use of the old solution – which “uncomfortable” as it was – worked. This year, we are without a Sukkah and are asking those who may be able to help, to assist us to purchase a new metal Sukkah together with the basic furniture we will need inside it. The Sukkah will be built outside in the parking lot area – and as a result, it will not be easy for us to have to carry the furniture from the Sukkah back to our apartment 3 floors high. It is the only furniture we have and we would have to keep it in our apartment for when we are inside.
Our goal is to raise ₪1600 which will allow us to purchase the Sukkah and necessary items inside, and have it transported to us – as it will simply not fit onto a bus.

If we are not able to obtain the full amount, we will not be able to use the other donations for the Sukkah itself, as they will not assist us in part amount only.
