Celebrating New Jewish Homes We Were Privileged to Help Begin

Behind these photographs are real people, real beginnings and precious memories from the years when our Wedding Project was actively helping couples begin married life with dignity, joy and support.

More Than Wedding Gifts

During the active years of our Wedding Project, Chessed Ve’Emet had the privilege of helping couples preparing for marriage who did not have the financial or family assistance that so many of us take for granted.

Sometimes that meant beautiful and practical gifts for their new home. Sometimes it meant Judaica, clothing, sefarim and other necessities. And sometimes it meant simply being there — helping with preparations, arranging flowers and tables, taking photographs and helping a bride and groom feel that somebody genuinely cared.

“Every wedding is more than a celebration. It is the beginning of a new Jewish home.”
♡ A Wedding Story

Yanki* & His Kallah

Two Baalei Teshuvah preparing to build a Jewish home

Yanki and his kallah were both Baalei Teshuvah and were preparing for their wedding without family assistance. They approached us hoping that perhaps we might be able to help.

What followed became about much more than simply providing gifts. We had the privilege of being present at their Chuppah, where we also took photographs for them. Shoshanah helped prepare the tables and attended to some of the beautiful details surrounding the kallah — including her veil, chair and flowers.

We were also able to provide the couple with a beautiful collection of items with which to begin their married life. Most importantly, they were able to choose these items themselves from our Bayit Chadash Store.

Among the gifts they received:
Silver-plated candlesticks
Sets of dishes
Sterling-silver Kiddush cup
Sterling-silver mayim acharonim set
Challah board and challah cover
Wine decanter and glasses
Personal items for the kallah
Additional gifts for their new home

These were not simply presents. They were some of the first possessions accompanying a young couple into their bayit chadash — their new Jewish home.

Helping Build a Home Rooted in Torah

Providing the practical necessities of a new home was only part of the vision. Wherever possible, we wanted a couple beginning married life to have the Judaica, sefarim and resources that could accompany them as they built a home filled with Torah and Jewish life.

♡ Another Beginning

Shalom* & His Kallah

Torah, dignity and the foundations of a new home

Shalom was so excited and appreciative of the gifts that he and his kallah-to-be received that he prepared a beautifully typed letter of appreciation — a letter that remains among the memories preserved on this page.

Together with gifts for their new home, we were privileged to provide something especially meaningful for the establishment of a Torah home: an extensive collection of Sifrei Kodesh.

Among the assistance Shalom received:
Sterling-silver 34cm candlesticks
A collection of Sifrei Kodesh
A high-quality Shtender
Detachable tabletop section for the Shtender
Clothing for the Chuppah
Clothing for Sheva Berachot and afterwards
An entire Greenwald edition of Talmud Bavli
Additional books and gifts
The photograph of Shalom with his gifts captures the abundance of what was given. But the real significance was not simply the quantity of the gifts. It was the opportunity to help a couple enter married life feeling supported, respected and cared for.

The Story Does Not Have to End Here

Could the Wedding Project Come Alive Again?

These photographs belong to an earlier chapter of the Chessed Ve’Emet Wedding Project. The project is not presently operating as it once did — but the need to help couples begin married life with dignity has certainly not disappeared.

We would be deeply grateful to see this work come alive again.

To undertake a project of this nature responsibly requires substantial and dependable financial backing. Weddings involve significant expenses and commitments, and meaningful assistance can only be offered when the necessary resources are genuinely available.

If you are an individual, family, foundation, business or organisation interested in helping us re-establish the Wedding Project — whether by sponsoring a wedding, establishing a dedicated wedding fund, or becoming a major ongoing partner — we would very much like to hear from you.

Together, perhaps we can help another couple begin their Jewish home with joy.

Perhaps you can help make it possible.
